Lower Calf Creek Falls

We added a new hike to our list of favorites! We hiked Lower Calf Creek Falls and LOVED it! I've been wanting to do this hike for awhile since neither David or I had done it before so we finally made the time to go! It's the coolest oasis in the desert! Evelyn absolutely loved it too! When we arrived to the falls and took her out of the carrier she just ran back and forth screaming with excitement. It was one of the cutest things everrrrr. This girl sure loves adventure like her mama and dada. Our little trip was our first solo camping trip as a family where it was just us. Every time we've gone camping with Evelyn it's always been with other people and big groups so it was fun just being us. It got me really excited when our next baby girl arrives and then our girls will be able to play together. I'm soooo excited for that.

If you are looking for a fun adventure, I totally recommend this hike! The hike is best during the Spring or Fall just because the summer gets super hot in the desert. You can hike it at all skill levels because the hike is pretty much flat the whole way. Not too hard of a hike at all. Here is the description of the hike from ALL TRAILS.

Calf Creek Falls is one of the most well known and unique features in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The trail follows Calf Creek to the 126' high falls. The hike is 6 miles round trip and takes average hikers 3-4 hours. Elevation change on the trail is minimal, but the trail is sandy and walking can be strenuous, especially in hot weather. In contrast, the falls provide a delightfully cool, shady haven which makes the hike well worth the effort.

Camping? There is a campground at Lower Calf Creek Falls but it is very SMALL so therefore it fills up quick. So if you are wanting to camp and the camp sight make sure to make reservations before hand to ensure a spot. We didn't know that so there was no room for us there. However you are in the middle of no where so if you drive for a while you can find places to camp outside of campgrounds. That's what we did. We pitched out tent and things worked out great!

If you don't have the ALL TRAILS app yet, download it now! It's an app that shows you hikes in your area or hikes you are searching. It lets you know the difficulty, distance, elevation etc. Plus other hikers can make comments giving you insight to the hike.

What child carrier do we use? We use the Deuter Kid Comfort 3 and love it! It's very comfortable for both the carrier and the child. Since I am pregnant and David was with me, of course David was the one to pack Evelyn around! I miss hiking with evelyn strapped to my back. When I went hiking a lot last fall with Evelyn I would use the Ergo Baby 360 carrier. But now Evelyn is bigger so the Deuter is much more comfortable.

I hope you enjoy this hike as much as we did! We will definitely be back!
