My Fitness Journey

Happy 9 months postpartum to me! I cannot believe that my little baby Evelyn has been outside my tummy as long as she was inside my tummy! Blows my mind how fast time flies, if only pregnancy went as fast as having a new baby haha. I am going to be completely open and honest with you about my fitness journey and how I completely changed my lifestyle. So if you have any questions then ASK AWAY!

I remember when I got pregnant I would hear "are you ready to never have the same body again?" or I would hear that I would 'lose my body' after I had a baby. Well I am here to say that they were right that my body isn't the same. I have stretch marks and I gained 40lbs and sometimes I just pee a little and I can't even help it hahaha but I am also here to tell you that in fact I am actually in BETTER 'shape' than I was BEFORE I had my baby. Whaaaa?

While I was pregnant I came across Kayla Itsines (@kayla_itsines) instagram and saw so many amazing women's transformations and one in particular was Kelsey Wells (@mysweatlife) who was also a mom from Utah. I was inspired and I got Kayla's Bikini Body Guides (BBG) work out guides. Basically they are 12 week work out guides where you exercise 6 days a week with 3 days resistance training and 3 days cardio. The guides were too intense for how far along I was in my pregnancy so after my baby was born and at 6 weeks postpartum I got the ok from my Doctor that it was ok to start exercising again, I began my fitness journey.

I was in for a big surprise because it was HARD!!! Never in my whole life had I exercised so consistently so I had ZERO muscle memory and really no muscle at all and no discipline to get it done. I started with the pre training guides and could barley get through one circuit, I remember feeling overwhelmed with thinking how far I thought I had to go and how hard it was and how in the world was I going to keep going and make it through all of the guides. Another thing that was discouraging was I was actually GAINING weight not losing it.... so I opted to throwing out the scale because it just made me mad haha. The holidays came and that was tough with all of the delicious treats everywhere and I was trying to embrace my new role as a mom. What kept me going was just in the way that the exercise was making me FEEL. Sweating out those endorphins everyday was super healing and it was like 'my time of day' to get in my sweat sesh. It definitely helped me get through those post baby blues. So I decided to just take one day at a time and find the victory in finishing my work out for that day. Completely changing my lifestyle was one of the best things I could have done for myself as I was embracing my new role as a mom. Living a healthy lifestyle feels GOOD! I'm building muscle I've never had before. I am finally back down to my pre pregnancy weight - not that that matters because I FEEL so much better than I did before I was pregnant. I want to live a healthy lifestyle so that I can be the best mom and wife I can be. I want to be able to have the strength and energy to go on all the hikes and adventures with my family. Here I am at 30 weeks of BBG and I am so excited to continue my fitness journey :)

I LOVE food. like a lot. Changing my eating habits is probably one of the hardest things I have been working on. But I have learned to eat BETTER not less. I had NO IDEA how much the food on your plate effects you. A friend told me about the Whole 30 challenge and so I got the book "It Starts With Food" and "Whole 30" and it totally blew my mind! I am still working on changing the way I think about food but when I eat better and not less I FEEL so much better!!!

I also have my favorite nutritional system. I did a full body nutritional cleanse at the end of winter to totally just cleanse out my body from all the impurities and it made me feel great and I actually lost weight doing it. I also have my favorite protein shake that I have almost every single day. It's so important that we are fueling our bodies right. You can find my favorite nutritional products here ---->

I love that with BBG I can do the work outs from HOME! All of my resistance trainings take place in my living room. All I use is a yoga mat, work out bench and a few dumbbells. I will do my work outs while my baby sleeps or while she is entertained. For the cardio days I go to my gym that has daycare and that's how I get my work outs in with my baby. She's getting quite mobile now so I may have to start doing all of my work outs at the gym but for when I started, it was the best thing ever to be able to do them right in my home.

The BBG Community is unreal! When you do BBG you are never ever really working out alone because there are women all over the world doing it with you. It's all about lifting and supporting one another. I created a fitness instagram (@actively.natalie) to help me stay accountable with my work outs and soon realized how amazing the community is. I have made so many new friends and they all motivate me so much. There are meet ups and it's been so fun meeting my BBG sisters and getting our sweat on together.

If you are thinking about changing your lifestyle, JUST DO IT! It's the best thing you can do for yourself. and I love this quote about kids--- "Let them be your MOTIVATION not your EXCUSE."
Time is going to pass either way so might as well live a healthy lifestyle and take care of yourself. Believe me if I can do it, YOU CAN DO IT TOO!
